the robustly potted vessel of archaic hu form and octangonal section, the pear shaped body supported on a straight foot and rising to shoulders set with a pair of tubular arrow handles, covered overall in a caesious-coloured glaze suffused with a brown crackle, the base inscribed in underglaze blue with a six-character seal mark

Condition

The vase is in very good condition with just a few burst bubbles to the inner mouthrim and one on the mouthrim.

A Qianlong vase of this form with a guan-type glaze in the National Palace Museum is included in the exhibition, Qing Monochrome Porcelain, Taipei, 1981, cat. no. 89; another is illustrated by John Ayers in The Baur Collection, Geneva, vol. III, 1972, no. A344; and a third from the Garner Collection was included in the Oriental Ceramic Society exhibition The Arts of the Ch'ing Dynasty, London, 1964, cat. no. 276.
