Catalogue Note

John Jacob Robertson (1797-1881) was an Episcopal priest – the first Missionary to be appointed by the Episcopal Church in the United States. He served in Greece and in Turkey from 1829 to 1881. He was rector of Trinity Church in Saugerties, (Ulster) New York from 1859 to 1881.

His son, John Atticus Robertson married Margaret Schenck, in whose family, the silhouette portrait descended.
