Catalogue Note

The inscription reads "Presented to Lewis Dexter Jr. A TOKEN OF REGARD From the Workmen in the employ of GORHAM & Co. on his retiring from the firm. Prov: June, 1862."

In 1852, Lewis Dexter, Jr. joined the partnership of his cousins, John Gorham and Gorham Thurber, at which time the firm was renamed Gorham & Co. He retired in 1861.
