Catalogue Note
Charles Osborne's hand is visible in many of Tiffany & Co.'s Japanesque silver designs of the 1880's. This clock features the pearling technique and waved lines that is characteristic of his work.
A similar but larger clock by Tiffany was sold Sotheby's, New York, June 15, 1998, lot 1689, where the hammering and mounting design was reproduced with permission of Tiffany & Co. Although not attributed at the time of sale, it features decoration that is recognizably Osborne's.
