A jewelled parcel-gilt niello snuff box set with a gold plaque, Paris, circa 1835

rectangular with rounded corners, the lid inset with a gold plaque chased in high relief with a hunting scene in a forest, probably by a member of the Kirstenstein family of Strasburg, within a turquoise-set frame, the niello ground with scrolls within chased silver-gilt volutes, the base similarly decorated with diaper, the sides engraved with flowerheads within scrolls,  the interior of lid with presentation inscription 'To / Lemaire / from his friend Joseph Harvey / New Year's day 1853', maker's mark AM with unidentifiable symbols in a vertical lozenge, Paris titre 1819-1838 and moyenne garantie
