Catalogue Note

This spaniel lying on the grass was a popular subject for micromosaic panels and is sometimes accompanied by a dead bird, probably his fresh kill. A larger version, attributed to the celebrated micromosaicist Gioacchino Barberi, set in a gold and enamel snuff box, was sold Sotheby's London, 10 May 2016, lot 254.
