the exterior painted with a view of Ellwangen, other towns and countryside, the interior with a stag hunt, wavy gilt-metal mounts

Condition

some crack at rear of base, and minor ones along top edge of lid, otherwise good condition.

Catalogue Note

Johann Andreas Bechdolff (1734-1807) started his career as a painter in the porcelain factory of Ellwangen before becoming famed as a painter on enamel. He is most celebrated for his refined city views, such as on the present lot.
