Condition

overall good condition apart from wear to faces on lid chasing, and clear marks on lid lining and base.

Catalogue Note

Jackson records William Currie, with this specific maker's mark, as working in Dublin around 1745, mainly producing tobacco and gold boxes; see  C.J. Jackson, English Goldsmiths & their Marks, 3rd Edn., Woodbridge, 1989, p. 635. Currie is recorded as becoming free in 1730, served as Master of the Dublin Goldsmiths' Guild in 1756/7 and died in 1772.
