Description

  • porcelain
  • 6.9cm., 2 3/4 in. high
formed as a parrot and a cockerel standing on a small mound base, the cockerel's neck set with a band inscribed 'MIGNONE' in gold on white enamel, the parrot with a band of ten foil backed faceted garnets, their detachable heads as chained stoppers, the mounted base painted with small flower sprigs and a larger spray to the underside,

Condition

In overall good condition, there is some minor losses to the enamel band on the cockerel's mount.

Catalogue Note

Very few examples of this form appear to be recorded, listed as 'Cochin China Cock and parrot', Kate Foster includes this model in the first category in her paper, op. cit., 1967. A second example was in the Otto and Magdalene Blohm collection, sold in these rooms 9th-10th October 1961, lot 521. Another, published by Foster from the collection of the late Mrs. Meyer Sassoon; The Property of Mrs. Derek Fitzgerald, sold Sotheby's London, 4th May 1965, lot 66 subsequently entered the Morrison collection and was sold in these rooms, 10th November 2015, lot 142.
