Catalogue Note
These models appear to have been exceptionally popular during the 18th century. Sale records of porcelain monkeys feature several times in the Livre-Journal of the marchand-mercier Lazare-Duvaux, including one entry for 16th December 1751 to Mme la Princesse de Royan, 'Un singe de porcelain de Saxe avec arbre et terrasse, 30 l.' Similar models from the property of the collection of Sir Gawaine and Lady Baillie were sold in these rooms, 1st May 2013, lots 71-73.
