Description

  • silver and calf leather box
  • 31cm., 12 1/4 in. high
in the 17th century Venetian glass style; the spherical bodies applied with stylised rope-work at intervals, each neck with similar collar and applied hanging chains, engraved with scrolling medlar fruit strapwork, the mounted cork stoppers with applied rope-work with finials cast as drunken men, in a fitted gilt-tooled red leather cabinet dated 1881 and 1925

By vendor repute these were owned by Victoria Eugenie, Queen of Spain (1906-1941)

Condition

Hallmarks clear to underside of each. Marks to one cover struck too close to edge and almost lost. One cork needs replacement. Small dent to one vacant cartouche. Each body with various pin-head sized bruises. Engraving crisp. The case with some scuffs and stains but overall good condition commensurate with age.
