Description

  • the coasters, 14cm., 5 1/2 in. diameter; the trolleys, 19 1/2 in., 49.5cm. long overall
the circular coasters with cast and pierced grape vine sides between moulded borders, each with base plates engraved with a royal ducal badge, wood undersides; attached with wing-nuts (one missing) to a pair of hourglass-shaped two-bottle trolleys with T-shaped pulls, each decorated with applied cast reed and grapevine borders and on four similar cast and pierced revolving wheels

Provenance

The property of descendants of John Deere (1804-1886), American blacksmith, inventor and founder of the Deere & Company, manufacturers of agricultural, construction and forestry machinery, &c., sold Sotheby’s, New York, 21 October 1998, lot 249

Condition

All elements clearly fully or part marked. One coasted with missing vine tendril creating slightly noticeable gap. One fastening screw is absent to one coaster. Slight wear to high points of gilding on trolleys. Both move nicely on a flat surface. Good overall condition.
