probably modelled by J.J. Kändler, encrusted with brightly coloured flower sprigs and painted with scattered insects, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue, impressed numeral 26 to tureen, 27 to stand,

Condition

To the cover, one flower stem has been restored. The tureen has a repaired crack which extends from the rim above one handle, through to the base to the left of the other handle, some discoloured over-paint to interior. The stand has two small areas of restoration at the rim. There is some typical glaze and enamel wear consistent with age.

Catalogue Note

Tureens of this form similarly applied flowers were included in the armorial service produced in 1735 for Count Johann Christian von Hennicke (circa 1681-1752), a cabinet minister under Count Brühl who became deputy director of the Meissen factory in 1739. A tureen from the service was sold in these rooms, 7th October 1986, lot 280.
