Catalogue Note

Otto Wüstlich (1819-1896) was a member of the Munich School of Artists. The quality of Wüstlich’s work is confirmed by the fact that a plaque painted by him of Prince Albert, consort to Queen Victoria was incorporated into a Jewellery cabinet commissioned by the Prince. This superb cabinet was displayed in the Great Exhibition 1851 and is still in the Royal Collection. The 1626 source painting for the plaque by Cornelis de Vos is in the Würzburg Residenz, South Germany.
