Catalogue Note
The 1924 Grand National, the 83rd renewal of the race, took place at Aintree on 29th March. A false start caused the race to be delayed by over 8 minutes with the decision subsequently made to stop the 'riding start' commencement in future races. Lord Airlie's horse Master Robert was a 25/1 shot that received £5,000 and a trophy to the value of 200 sovereigns for the victory.
