Description
- Silver-gilt, Rock Crystal
- 42.3cm., 16 3/4 in. high
the rock crystal body in multiple faceted and shaped sections with acanthus leaf mounts, the hexagonal base with eight beaded scroll supports, applied girdle with similar six beaded scroll branches, the cast model of Jesus mounted between four circular medallions depicting the four evangelists, later French control marks
Condition
Town mark clear, maker's mark heavily distorted to rim of base. The cross is structurally sound but leans to one side slightly and some junctions are a little loose. Original gilding is good but a little worn to high points. The rock crystal with various small chips (chewing) to faceted edging but no unnatural cracks or flaws. One scrolling arm supporting base is broken at the junction other junctions possibly repaired. Generally good condition commensurate with age.
