Catalogue Note

Wig stands were a luxury item to own and are a rare survival in any form. Of the few which do survive, a particularly close comparable is in the V&A, London, marked for Samuel van Eenhoorn of De Grieksche A (The Greek A) factory, painted with similar figures picked out in manganese, mus. no. c.661-1909; a second unmarked example painted in this manner is in the Legion of Honor museum, San Francisco, acc. no. 1999.115. The De Metalle Pot factory also produced stands; one marked for Lambertus Cleffius was in the Dr. Anton C.R. Dreesmann Collection, Christie's Amsterdam, 16th April 2002, lot 1294. In France the form was also produced at Nevers.
