Condition

overall good condition despite some minor wear commensurate with age, some repair and minor splits at junction of foot rim and domed body, solder repair to area around screw of foot. crisp engraving. maker's mark rubbed but other marks reasonnably clear. nice colour.

Catalogue Note

The inscription translates as: Johan Baptiste Bollany honoured this cup in memory of the colleague of The Romans in Gorinchem. Frederiks described the cup and the silvermsith's work as follows: 'He was inspired by German models [...]. By no means a slavish imitator, he succeeded in designing a shape which also shows the influence of the Dutch lobate style.'
