Description

  • A jewelled gold presentation snuff box, probably Geneva, circa 1830
  • gold, diamonds
  • 8.9cm., 3 1/2 in. high
rectangular with rounded corners, the cover applied with the initial F in rose-cut diamonds on a shaped sablĂ© ground within a leaf-chased border, four rose-cut diamond rosettes at the corners, engine-turned sides and base, the lid interior with modern date 26-1-1951, apparently unmarked apart from later French import mark

Provenance

The Property of a Gentleman, Christie's Geneva, 14-15 November 1983, lot 567; according to the catalogue, the box was traditionally said to have been a git from Ferdinand II, King of the Two Sicilies (1810-1859), who acceeded to the throne in 1830.

Condition

Generally very good condition but would benefit from professional cleaning. Pinprick dent back right. Lid rim gold pins have been out and put back leaving scratch marks around.
