Catalogue Note

Clément Dupont became master, sponsored by Pierre-Denis Henrion,  on 20 December 1788 from the rue de Harlay. He appears to have remained at the same address, or at least in the same street,  until 1807 when he moved from 11 rue de Harlay to 40 quai des Orfèvres. His first post-revolution mark, registered in 1798, was for le gros bijou et le petit à perles et autres. Douet’s Tableau of 1806 clarifies: “Clément Dupont, fabt le gros bijou, rue de Harlay, 11. La dame Dupont vend du petit bijou de différentes fabriques”. He appears to have remained at this address until at least 1809.
For a very similar case by Dupont from the Nelson A. Rockefeller collection, see Sotheby's New York 11 April 1980, lot 11.
