- An ivory and tortoiseshell portrait box, French, circa 1800
- papier mache, ivory, tortoiseshell
- 6.3cm., 2 1/2 in. and 8.5cm., 3 3/8 in. diameter
circular, the lid set with the portrait of a young man, French school, within gold frame, and a vernis Martin bonbonnière, France, circa 1765, the lid painted with a pastoral subject, the reverse with a shepherd’s hut
Condition
1. Miniature good but cracked around edges, some mould, some gold ornament lacking to frame, ivory cracked.
2. Edge of box has dried out and chipped. Some chips to rim of box and cover.
