- 24.3cm., 9 1/2 in. and 21cm., 8 1/4 in. high
each of globular form with three spouts, one painted with four birds perching on flowering chrysanthemum branches, the neck pierced with a band of foliage scroll ornament; the other painted with three chinoiserie cartouches, the neck pierced with four circular medallions and the name 'HENDRIK VRESE' under the rim,
Condition
The larger example: In good condition with only some typical glaze flakes and minor chips.
The other jug: To the rim there is a short faint hairline near the handle and a small chip and small chips to footrim.

The Dutch East India Company (VOC) records a Hendrik Vrese in 1767, enlisting as a cabin boy on theĀ Huis ter Meijen out of Amsterdam, bound forĀ Batavia. He returned and was discharged in 1773 on the Alkemade.
