Description
- René Boivin
- gold, freshwater pearl, diamond
The torsade composed of eight strands of freshwater pearls, with tapered ropetwist terminals set with small round diamonds, suspending a tassel composed of nine freshwater pearl fringes, internal circumference 7 inches, with French assay and maker's marks; circa 1950.
Provenance
Sotheby's New York, Magnificent Jewels, April 23, 2009, lot 12.
Condition
In very good condition considering the age of the piece. The numerous round diamonds are approximately H-I color, VS-SI clarity weighing approximately 1.70 carats. There is some discoloration to the gold twist terminals commensurate with wear. The pearls are out of round bordering on baroque with ringing, uneven skins and varying soft overtones of blue, green, pink and yellow. Unsigned but stamped with French assay marks and workshop marks Ste C F in a lozenge with a symbol between the C and F. Clasp operates by sliding c-shaped clasp toward the cap of the tassel, and sliding the squared link atop the cap through the opening in the c-shaped clasp.
