Description

  • jade
of flattened shield shape, the square shoulders rising to the waisted neck carved with animal masks, supporting loose ring handels, with a further mythical animal mask supporting a loose ring, each face of the body carved with flowering prunus issuing out of garden rocks, with a thin band of key-fret at the rim and foot, the domed cover similarly carved with prunus and with a stepped rounded rectangular finial, the stone of an even pale celadon tone, with lighter inclusions and russet staining

Condition

There is a 2.5cm long flaw/crack running diagonally from the rim. There is some small nicks to the rim and small areas of re-polishing to the corners of the footrim. There are areas of natural flawing to the stone, which have been disguised by the carving of the prunus or russet staining.
