First edition, presentation copy of the author's first book. "For Henry H. Hart / Dashiell Hammett / June 24, 1929." The work that really introduced the Continental Op to a wide readership and setting the template for the hardboiled detective.  

Inscribed copies of Hammett's first novel are scarce, with only a single example at auction in the last three decades.
