Catalogue Note
First American edition, inscribed by Rand to her attorney, John Gall "To John C. Gall — | one of my best readers — | Ayn Rand | Christmas 1946".
The author's second book (after the first in London in 1938), Anthem gives the first glimmers of Rand's theme of collectivism vs individualism, depicting a bleak, dystopian future in which independent thought is a crime, and all expressions of individuality are considered a sin, including the use of the word "I".
