indistinctly stamped DUBOIS JME, re-decorated

Duc de Villeroy, sold, Galerie Georges Petit, Paris, 27-29 April 1922, lot 182.

Condition

In overall good restored condition. The japanning has been largely refreshed and the restored surface has evidence of craqueler and lifting which has been consolidated. There are two losses to the relief on the left hand side. Also some small losses to the right hand side of the fall front. The fitted interior with one handle needing re-fixing. With some minor losses to the japanning throughout and the legs have been redecorated and there is evidence of repair in the form of consolidated fractures and breaks. There is a loss to the back of one sabot. Historic cataloguing of this piece suggests there is a stamp however Sotheby's have been unable to locate the stamp at this stage.
