Description

  • the models 27cm., 10 5/8 in. and 27.5cm., 10 7/8 in. high, overall 51.5cm., 20 1/4 in. high
modelled by J. J. Kändler, the models probably matched, in naturalistic poses facing their left and right, sat among reeds picked out in green upon small mossy mound bases, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue to rear of bases, the pierced scrollwork bases issuing three branches applied with stylised acanthus leaves and flowerheads,

Condition

The model in the left of the illustration; there is some kiln speckling to the surface. There is a restored section of the base located infront of the swan's left foot and extends to just under his wing. A similar area of restoration appears in front of the right foot, possibly a restored crack. One reed at the back of the base is re-stuck. The other has an area of restoration at the base of it's neck on the right side only which extends slightly up it's back. The model has an area of restoration beginning at the base under each foot and extends under the wings, under the left wing there is a partially visible hairline crack. There is some minor repair to five tips of the reeds. The mounts, with some typical oxidisation.
