Description

  • porcelain, gilt bronze
  • overall 32.8cm., 12 7/8 in. high
modelled as a gentleman and lady beneath a tree, a child above throws down apples, upon a scrollwork edged base picked out in gold, the mount applied with branches issuing porcelain flowers

Property of the Estate of Nelson A. Rockefeller, sold Sotheby Parke Bernet, New York, 11th April 1980, lot 211.

Condition

There are some old restorations to extremities - these include the male figure's right coat cuff and sleeve, his right foot is replaced; her left arm, and the boy's right foot. Similarly the tree branch tips have been restored together with the left foot of the figure in the tree. The flowers are in generally good condition with only typical minor chips, all have been secured in place with a fixing agent. The bronze mount with some typical tarnishing consistent with age, one bronze flower head is loose. There is some old glue residue at base terminal of branch.
