- Three objects of vertu, late 18th century/early 19th century
- gold, hardstone, tortoiseshell, ivory,
the first, a bloodstone and gold etui, English, circa 1760, fluted quiver form, with its implements including an ivory tablet, suspension loop, 9.5cm., 3 3/4 in. high ; the second, a gold and hardstone snuff box, German or English, circa 1760, rectangular with rounded corners, waisted sides, the lid later applied with a hardstone and gold Chinese figure below a parasol, reeded gold mounts and raised thumbpiece, 6.2cm., 2 1/2 in. wide ; the third, an aventurine, tortoiseshell and gold snuff box, circa 1800, oval, the mounts engraved with date and initials 'Y.M. 27.1.47', 8.5cm., 3 3/4 in. wide
Condition
1. base and lid hardstone panels probably replaced , some splits to gold and a few nuts missing, gold ornament also lifting up at some areas
2. applied ornament on lid has been reglued.
3. tortoiseshell, aventurine and mounts are circa 1800 but have been associated at a later date
