Catalogue Note
AN EXTREMELY RARE WORK, THIS COPY BY DESCENT FROM THE AUTHOR'S BROTHER.
The plates show various different strategies for shooting grouse, and are highly amusing as well as practical. Riling speculates that "the issue of this book probably did not exceed twenty copies".
This copy is accompanied by a letter from the author to his cousin once removed, Thomas Fothergill Wilson Crawhall, dated towards the end of the author's life and explaining some aspects of the book, including that "Gorcock was purely imaginary".
