Catalogue Note
SCARCE. Only one copy looks to have appeared at auction in recent years. Coleridge wrote to Robert Southey shortly after the publication to express his disappointment that "there were not above two hundred sold" (19 December 1799).
The three poems - Fears in Solitude, France: An Ode and Frost at Midnight - were subsequently printed in The Poetical Register and then privately published as an octavo volume in 1812. However, the final six lines of Frost at Midnight in the quarto edition were deleted in later versions of the text.
