PART OF A NOTE TO HIS PUBLISHER CONCERNING THE COMPLEX DEVELOPMENT OF THE GIAOUR. This long poem was first published in June 1813 and was expanded over the months that followed in every edition until the 7th, which appeared in December of the same year. This line appears in every edition from the first, and is line 1126 in the authoritative modern edition. Byron's instructions would appear to relate to revisions made for the fifth edition, in which it was line 1037 and in which new lines are introduced to follow.
