When it came for sale in New York, Walter Thomas Wallace's collection was advertised as "one of the most valuable libraries offered at public sale in recent years". In the catalogue introduction, Wallace is described as "a booklover from boyhood and for a quarter of a century one of the most constant, painstaking and intelligent collectors of his time".

Literature

Barnes A2; Wise 3

Catalogue Note

Browning's second work, written when she was only 17 years old. This copy is apparently an example of Barnes' second impression, with the page numbers misaligned on pp.12, 24 and 148 and an errant space appearing in the type on p.75 at line 15 (reading "...fo und...").
