Catalogue Note
POPE'S OWN COPY, with provenance from Sir William Trumbull (1639-1716), with whom the young Pope was well acquainted and often exchanged books. Easthampstead Park was given to the Trumbull family in 1629 by Charles I, and remained in the family until Sir William's great granddaughter married the Arthur Hill, Marquess of Downshire, at which point it became part of their estate. Pope's home at Binfield was only about 2 miles away from the Park.
Sandys' Paraphrase upon the Psalms of David first appeared in 1636, but without Lawes' music.
