Catalogue Note

Zatlin describes this drawing as 'Figure holding a Lidded Chalice' and notes that it 'is also known as Ganymede. The figure bearing a chalice and standing in front of what appears to be wallpaper holds its right arm and hand in the same position as the figure carrying the lamp standing between the column of a doorway in Evelyn De Morgan's Hope in the Prison of Despair (1887, private collection), which Beardsley would have seen at the New Gallery's 1892 autumn exhibition...'
