Catalogue Note
GRAHAM GREENE'S OWN RETAINED COPY OF HIS AND CAROL REED'S SCREENPLAY FOR ONE OF THE MOST CELEBRATED FILMS OF ALL TIME. It is Greene's only original screenplay, and, despite the author's great body of work over six decades, remains his most popular quoted work. The famous "Cuckoo-clock" speech, uttered by Welles as Harry Lime as he and Martins revolve in the Great Wheel over ruined post-war Vienna, was not part of the original screenplay (it was allegedly added by Welles during the course of filming) but is included here as a footnote.
