Condition

The canvas has a recent and rather rigid relining and has been recently stretched. The painting is in fair overall condition with a clear and even varnish. The principle damages visible under ultra violet light are mainly confined to the dark tones in the corners. They include a vertical 16 cm tear running down from the centre of the top edge; a 40 cm diagonal tear or crease in the upper right hand corner; 40 cm vertical line of damages at the lower left corner. In addition to the fold, the upper right hand corner has a large number of repaired damages and losses and there has been considerable repair to the central and lower right margin, and to the upper left margin. The vast majority of the paint surface however, including the main details of the still life elements and the birds, remain entirely intact with only minor local retouchings in evidence. No further work would be required. Offered in a modern painted wood frame in good condition.
