Condition

The canvas has a firm relining. The paint surface is relatively clean, and the varnish is even, if a little discolored. A handful of surface scratches are visible, the most significant of which is in the chest of the figure on the right, which has resulted in a small loss. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching along a vertical seam or fold, which runs through the center of the picture. Other scattered retouchings are visible throughout, the most significant area of which is in the dark tones above Lot's head. There are also two restored damages in the upper right corner of the canvas, the largest of which measures approx. 4 x 10 cm. Overall the painting is in fair condition. In a carved and gilt painted frame in good condition.
