Description

  • North Italian School, 18th century
  • A set of architectural capricci and pastoral scenes
  • tempera and gold on canvas, within painted circles
  • 52 cm diameter

Condition

The canvases are all stretched over lattice stretchers, and have been painted with white paint on the reverse. The majority of the paintings have sustained small losses, either scattered through the paint surfaces within the roundels, or in the gold painted circles, or along the unframed margins. Ultraviolet light reveals fairly little intervention, save for some areas of retouching to previous losses in a handful of the group.
