Catalogue Note

Author of La Modification and Mobile, Michel Butor (1926-2016) was a poet, novelist, teacher, essayist and art critic. He has published more than two hundred books including many artists' books, with Pierre Alechinsky or Alexandre Calder.
He devoted his studies to numerous painters such as Eugene Delacroix, Rembrandt, Piet Mondrian or Alberto Giacometti. He is the author of the first essay devoted to the work of Diego Giacometti, published by Adrien Maeght and illustrated with numerous photographs by Jean Vincent.
The text titled Soliloque De Diego was written on October 5, 1985 and published the same year.
Diego Giacometti conceuved two sculptures for him: a cup with two birds and a penholder with two birds for his pencils, a wink of the sculptor to the writer.
