  • 11cm. high; 4¼in. high and 10cm. high; 4in.
possibly by l'escalier de cristal, mounted on a rectangular glass base with a cavetto border engraved Fidel and with hobnail cutting to the underside together with a gilt-metal whippet, after a model by Pierre-Jules Mene (1810-1879); Levrette (Giselle) jouant avec une boule, on an associated figured marble base (2)

Condition

Paperweight is lovely quality, gilding slightly tarnished, The whipped originally silvered. Lady Sophia Topley, The World of Interiors, 'Mayfair Lady', March 2005, p. 102, the model of the whippet illustrated on the Drawing Room chimneypiece at Chesterfield Street, the London residence of the 11th Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.
