Description

Designed as a butterfly set with circular-cut diamonds of yellow tint and cushion-shaped diamonds, the eyes set with cabochon rubies.

Diamonds have not been tested for natural origin of colour.

A gift from Andrew, 11th Duke of Devonshire (1920-2004) to Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire (1920-2014)

Condition

Diamonds of yellow tint weighing approximately 7.00-9.00 carats in total, including principle stones each of approximately 1.50 carats, estimated clarity VS-SI on average. Remaining diamonds weighing approximately 2.00-4.00 carats, estimated colour I-K, some M+ colour, estimated clarity VS-SI on average. Graded within the limitations of the mount. Rubies purplish red, transparent, typical inclusions visible under magnification. Secure clasp. Scratches to metal consistent with wear. In good condition. Mounted in silver and gold, later brooch pin to reverse.
