Description

  • Kingwood, mahogany, brass and leather
  • 77cm. high, 121cm, wide, 57cm deep; 2ft. 6½in., 3ft. 11½in., 1ft. 10½in.
boxwood and ebony strung, with a gilt-tooled leather inset top above a single inverted frieze drawer between three drawers to each side raised on eight square tapering legs with brass castors

Provenance

Acquired by Sydney Bowles Mitford, Lady Redesdale (1880-1963), the mother of Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire (1920-2014), known affectionately by the Mitford sisters as 'Muv';
thence by descent

This dressing table is illustrated in Lady Redesdale's Bedroom at Swinbrook House in Oxfordshire early in the 20th century.

Condition

Lovely quality although now in Country House condition.. Faded from sunlight and the back notable very dry from the effects of sunlight. Circular stain to leather top. Losses and lifting to banding, stringing and veneers. Scuffs and old marks to legs brasses tarished.
