The Duchess writes about the Mitford archive at Chatsworth, 'They [the Mitford papers and letters] start with the diaries of my mother, in love with her skating instructor when she was seventeen (as we all were in our youth, a passion now transferred to ski guides) and spending summers on her father's ketch at Trouville in the company of the artists Helleu, Boldini and Tissot'. The Duchess of Devonshire, Chatsworth, The House, London, 2002, p. 144.

With margins, in good condition apart from scattered fox marks, moisture staining in the right margin, mount-staining, some surface soiling verso, remains of previous mounting along left and right sheet edges verso, pale backboard-staining, framed.
