Description

  • Porcelain, potterty
each painted in turquoise and gilt and applied with flowers in high relief, blue crossed swords marks, 19cm., 7 1/2 in. high; together with a flower encrusted slender baluster vase, probably Samuel Alcock, 21cm., 8 1/4 in. high; a majolica hand and corn vase and a Parian hand and flower vase (5)

Condition

The pair and single vase applied with flowers, stained crazing and chips to applied flowers; The parian example, re-stuck at wrist, chips to rim; The majolica example, chip to base and hairline cracks to rim.

Catalogue Note

The Parian example was a favourite of the Duchess as it features on her desk in a portrait of her by Mogens Tvede in 1949, when she was Marchioness of Hartington (see Lot 333).
