Catalogue Note

EACH VOLUME IS INSCRIBED TO THE DUCHESS IN AFFECTIONATE TERMS BY A MEMBER OF THE KENNEDY FAMILY.

Writing in 2006, the Duchess recalled the Kennedy siblings: "The sheer vitality of brother and sister made us think them immortal. Alas, they were not." (All in One Basket (2011), p.256). Kathleen, the Duke and Duchess' sister-in-law, was tragically killed in a plane crash in 1948 and was buried in the churchyard at Chatsworth. Her brother John visited her grave in June 1963, the same year he was assassinated.
