Catalogue Note

“I admire Western studies, especially for their employment of rational thinking, analysis, induction and multi-pronged approach in order to come up with the most effective solutions….When the same approach is applied to ink painting, straight lines are used to delineate forms and visual space is redefined through division of the painting surface or reversal of front-back or void-solid relationships. The structure of the painting is further enhanced with lines, horizontals and intersections for either implicit or explicit variations. In addition, dots and lines serve to introduce a C-shape one-way swerve or an S-shape two-way twist to emphasize motion and resonance.” – Wucius Wong, Innovations and Crossovers: Retrospective Exhibition of Paintings by Wucius Wong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, 2016, p. 73
