Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. The canvas is unlined. There is some very light wear at the extreme turning corners. Under raking light, there is evidence of a very faint, vertical impression in the canvas. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, there is evidence of a few minor spots of restoration just above the third horizontal line from the bottom and along the upper right edge and along the left edge that runs the vertical length of the canvas. These spots are not visible under regular light conditions. Framed.

Catalogue Note

"The plaids, too, could be shaped out of a field depending on where I wanted a different emphasis to occur for expressive reasons. A color could be on an edge of a picture or inside the space of a picture: the question of top, bottom, left, right became totally flexible as did the question of parallel or vertical or horizontal." - Kenneth Noland
