Description
- Shimamoto Shozo
- Untitled (triptych)
- acrylic and broken glasses on canvas
signed in Japanese and English and dated 1999.9.19, framed
Provenance
Acquired directly from the artist by the present owner
Condition
This work is generally in fair condition. There are sporadic specks of surface paint loss with the most obvious at the lower central portion of the canvas and along the lower edges, and occasional minor paint cracks are observed especially in the impasto areas. The small lacerations in the canvas are likely due to the artist's original method of execution of using glass shards. There is wear in handling around the edges and a folding tear that arose from the work's original stretching. The undulations in the canvas surface are also attributed to the work's original stretching as well as the difference in stitching method between the first and second and second and third canvas strips. When examined under ultraviolet light, there appears to be no evidence of restoration.
